The board of directors of Basic Energy Corporation has approved the company’s plan to build a 50-megawatt wind farm in Mabini, Batangas.

In a regulatory filing, Basic Energy said that its subsidiary Mabini Energy Corporation approved on Tuesday the principal terms of the project’s pro-forma Wind Energy Service Contract (WESC) with the Department of Energy (DOE). The wind farm would cover an area of 4,860 hectares.

Mabini — a peninsular town in between the Balayan and Batangas Bays — receives wind speeds of up to 35.1 kilometers per hour, based on the Global Wind Atlas.

“The pro-forma WESC provides for a non-extendible five years pre-development stage and a [25-year development stage], counted from contract signing, which is extendible for another 25 years, subject to DOE approval,” the disclosure further read.
