Alternergy Holdings Corp’s (ALTER) Alabat Wind Project in Quezon Province is set to become a landmark in the country’s clean energy push, as the first units of its record-breaking 8 MW wind turbines have arrived on the island.
Renewable energy pioneer ALTER, through its subsidiary Alabat Wind Power Corporation (AWPC), received the first two 8 MW wind turbines for the 64 MW Alabat Wind Project. The turbines were delivered by ocean barge to the jetty constructed by Alternergy on Alabat Island.
Manufactured by Envision Energy, these turbines feature three blades, each 90 meters long, giving a total wingspan of 182 meters. Once assembled, the towers will stand at a maximum height of 195 meters, comparable to the RCBC Plaza or the Ayala Triangle Garden North buildings in Makati City.
The project will eventually feature eight turbines, making it the first wind project in the Philippines located along the Pacific Ocean coastline and the first wind project to be established in Quezon Province. Construction on Alabat Island is progressing, with completion targeted by the end of 2025. If achieved, it could be the first wind project completed under the Department of Energy’s 2nd Green Energy Auction Program initiated in July 2023.
This project is part of Alternergy’s broader goal of reaching 500 MW capacity by 2026. The company is also working on four other renewable energy projects, marking a significant step toward enhancing the country’s clean energy landscape.
